Dayne Congratulates all Crim Racers on a Race Well Run

The Walling for Mayor team joined Dayne Saturday morning in front of his campaign headquarters as he cheered on the Crim racers. Dayne ran the 10 mile race last year, so he knows the hard work and determination it takes to complete the course. Highlights from the event included seeing Batman and Robin and 3-basketball dribbling guy as they raced along with the other runners. Congratulations to all who participated.

Join Dayne this Weekend

Join Dayne and the Walling for Mayor campaign team as we cheer on Crim racers as they run past our headquarters at the corner of Fifth St. and S. Grand Traverse. We will be out there bright and early Saturday morning at 8:30 am. Please wear your Walling for Mayor t-shirts and remember that parking downtown on race day can be tricky. Our HQ parking lot will be closed off, so look to the surrounding side streets south of Fifth St.

Dayne will also be attending Rockin’ Art in Mott Park. This free, all-ages concert will be held this Saturday from 4-10 pm in Mott Park. For more information, visit their website at www.myspace.com/mottpark .

Countdown to Change Day 2: Flint's Youth

Today Dayne discussed creating opportunity for Flint’s children and his proposal for a Great Start.

As a father of two young boys, I understand the need for positive opportunities for our children and I want the same positive opportunities for them in Flint that I had growing up. Our children deserve the opportunity to learn, be healthy, and be safe so they are better prepared for school and life,

We need to utilize outcomes-based budgeting to create a strategic focus on children. We need to provide children age zero to five with health, safety and recreation services that government can effectively offer. We need to fully participate in county and statewide initiatives to ensure that Flint’s children and youth are equally served.

Finally, we need to stop paying lip service to our children and get results. That’s why in my administration every city department will have an opportunity to propose ways to improve the health, safety and recreation services available to children. To make those proposals a reality, one percent of the city’s general fund, approximately $700,000, will be available as a pilot.—Dayne Walling

Countdown to Change Day 3: Crime

Today Dayne detailed his plan for reducing crime in the city.

I am committed to creating safe streets for all residents of Flint. Just pushing crime and criminals from one ward to another is unacceptable. One of the key points in my Road Map to Opportunity is that Flint families deserve to be secure in their homes, neighborhoods, schools, parks, and businesses. I have a three-point plan for reducing crime and increasing safety with the city.--Dayne Walling

These points are:

1) Enact a comprehensive gun-violence reduction strategy that reaches into all parts of the city.

2) Improve response to all criminal acts in order to protect private property and enforce neighborhood standards.

3) Enhance the Flint Police Department’s commitment to officer training, the incorporation of technology, and transparency in all actions.

Day 4 of the Countdown to Change

Today as part of his 5 Day Countdown to Change, Dayne outlined his ideas for job creation and economic development for Flint.

“Workers in Flint need jobs. Jobs that can support a family. I have a two-pronged approach to job creation Flint. First, Flint has to be open for business. This means streamlining the regulatory and permitting processes for people who are investing in Flint, creating a First Stop Phone Call program so people trying to redevelop properties can get the answers they need to move forward and create jobs, and supporting existing neighborhood businesses. Second, Flint has to be redevelopment ready. We need to start utilizing opportunities, prepare sites for redevelopment, and initiate projects in all wards that will jump start economic development. For too long Flint has been on the wrong track when it comes to creating jobs that can support a family. The only way to get on the right track is to make a change.” –Dayne Walling

“In the closing 5 days of the primary election, I am redoubling my efforts to bring attention to the issues that matter most to voters of Flint: jobs, crime, and opportunity for our children, For too long Flint has been on the wrong track when it comes to these issues. The only way to get on the right track is to make a change.”

“In these ads I talk about my ideas on how to get Flint back on the right track when it comes to jobs, crime, and opportunity for our children. For more details, I encourage voters to read my Road Map to Opportunity. The Road Map to Opportunity is a concrete action plan on how we can change and bring opportunity back to Flint. “--Dayne Walling
