Walling Picks Up Over 200 Votes In Recount; Wins A Majority Of Precincts

A technical glitch resulted in some ballots in Precinct 25 on Flint's eastside not being tallied on election night. A recount in the precinct resulted in Dayne picking up over 200 votes. He increased his percentage in the primary to over 45%.

On Election Day Dayne showed strength throughout the city winning a majority of precincts (34 of 60) and finishing second in five other precincts. Dayne was also the favorite among those who cast absentee ballots.

As the final days of Flint Central draw near...

Today was an early start for many students, alumni, and supporters of Flint Central. WJRT spotlighted Central during its early morning broadcast in conjunction with Central's Spirit Day. This year's Spirit Day has a serious side in addition to its usual fun activities. This year we are raising money for the food bank. Every dollar results in 9 lbs of food. We want to raise 1,000 pounds for every year of the school--that is 86 years, 1923 to 2009. This means we need $100 for every Flint Central class since the school opened in 1923.

I am pledging $100 for my class of 1992 and $100 for my grandfather's class, Flint Central class of 1935. I am asking you to contribute in honor of your class.

Checks can be written and sent to:

Flint Central High School
601 Crapo St. Flint, MI 48503

Please write Food Drive in the memo line

The deadline for checks to be received is May 15th. We have raised over $3,000 already. Please send your contribution as soon as possible.

Central is competing with other high schools in the region to see who can raise the most money for the food bank. The school that raises the most in the ABC 12 competition will go back on the air before school is out.

This is our chance to honor our great school and also serve our city. Flint Central may be closing but our spirit will never pass.

Yard Signs Can Stay Up

The yard signs of the two winning candidates in the mayoral primary may stay up through the August general election, so keep your Walling for Mayor signs up. Show your support for change in Flint. If you need a yard sign, please contact the Walling for Mayor office at 810-233-9190 or email us at votewalling@gmail.com.

Walling Finishes Final Full Day Of Campaigning With Strong Showing At Forum

After knocking on doors throughout the city, Dayne finished his final full day of campaigning before voters head to the polls with a strong showing at tonight's Mayoral forum on blight and crime at Asbury Methodist Church.

At the forum, Dayne outlined his bold plan of change for Flint. He reemphasized his commitment to working residents to create comprehensive neighborhood plans that would be integrated into a citywide strategic plan. He also spoke about taking better care of all neighborhoods by focusing on three main objectives:

Neighborhood Action: Organizing action plans to focus existing city workers into teams accountable for improving our community through collaboration and joint planning

Safe Streets: Opening a police mini-station in every ward for community police patrols and decreasing crime in neighborhoods and around schools, parks, hospitals, and businesses

Learn Here, Live Here: Assisting college graduates with buying homes in Flint to strengthen our neighborhoods and retaining their expertise to help attract 21st century enterprises

Dayne also spoke about the importance of public safety and his belief that every resident deserves to be secure in their homes and neighborhoods. His Safe Streets plan includes these key components:

Open Police Mini-Stations in Every Ward: Create an accessible place in each of the city’s 9 Wards where citizens can file complaints, receive updates, and be trained in public safety and prevention.

Reduce Gun Violence: Enact a comprehensive gun-violence strategy that reaches into all parts of the city by investigating firearm offenses and gun trafficking with federal authorities and by coordinating with the County on expanding jail space.

Enforce All Laws and Ordinances: Improve response to all criminal acts and code violations in order to protect private property and enforce neighborhood standards by strengthening coordination between the police department and other city agencies as well as the mini-station personnel.
