Grebner said the recall committee hired past associates of Detroit political consultant Sam RIDDLE, who's currently in jail after pleading to corruption charges. Grebner added that people were paid by the number of signatures they collected, even if they were bad.

"It's a very high standard that takes a lot of work and organization," he said. "When you hire sleazy people who normally make their living panhandling in the park, you're going to get a lot of signatures. You'll get the same people over and over again, people from out of town and people who used to be registered to vote once but aren't anymore."
