Gregory Eason's Endorsement

Good morning everyone, my name is Gregory Eason. I'd like to thank everyone for taking time out of their busy schedules to come out today.

A few months ago, I decided to run for Mayor of Flint because I believed that Flint, Michigan can be one of the most dynamic, progressive, prosperous and culturally rich cities in Michigan. Flint, Michigan is the birthplace of one of the largest corporations in the world for over a century, called General Motors. Flint was once hailed as a technological manufacturing Mecca. Those times have changed and now Flint is in the process of transitioning into something much greater and stronger. Our time has come and we have an opportunity to cease a rare moment to create positive change and embrace new leadership that will prepare our community to rebuild and sustain ourselves and to propel us into the 21st century with greater determination; invigoration, exhilaration, excitement, a stronger foundation and a new path that will return Flint back to its rich traditional of being a nationally and internationally recognized example of what is possible when you have the good leadership who cares about its constituents and allows them to play a significant role in reshaping their community; A new set of leaders who values its human capital; committed to reforming and transforming its infrastructure;. A new leadership that is ready to create new paradigms and step outside of the box. A new leadership that will embrace positive change; negotiate new partnerships; find common ground and pursue better opportunities.

We cannot afford to continue to do things in the same way and using the same old strategies and bad politics of the past. We cannot allow ourselves to get caught up in fighting the same old battles that have never benefitted Flint and the people in which we serve. We need a positive change and positive results. We need new leadership that will inspire a new movement towards making Flint a greater community and we will have to work as one united community who embraces races, color, creeds, nationalities, gender, sexual preference, and disabilities as an integrated foundation and one thread that binds us and strengthens us.

I believed then as I do now that we have a unique moment in the history of Flint to turn the page and create a new chapter. And with a new leadership, a new movement and a commitment to real change we can transform Flint, Michigan into one of the greatest cities in the United States and in the world.

“During the primary, Dayne and I got a chance to know each other and we share many of the same values, perspective, ideas and a commitment to real and positive change for Flint. His ideas on how we can strengthen our neighborhoods, attract business investment and jobs, reform city government, ensure a fair and equitable distribution of resources to all communities, encourage entrepreneurship and support our current business community, develop strong and meaningful partnerships and collaborations with the non-profit community, diversify our local business economy, create a public safety plan, establish a grants department, repair and re-establish critical partnerships with city council and other county, state and federal officials, ensure fiscal accountability and create a comprehensive master plan to better meet the challenges of the 21st century were key reasons why I believe he is the best choice for mayor” said Eason.
