Road Map to Opportunity

Children smilingToo many families have been robbed of the American Dream. It is time to bring opportunity back to Flint. Dayne's Road Map to Opportunity is a plan to bring jobs and development for the 21st Century. It starts with putting people first at City Hall—especially our children—and then taking care of our neighborhoods. Getting these things done in cooperation with the City Council will establish a winning record for Flint.

Bringing Jobs and Development for the 21st Century
  • Redevelopment Ready: Clean up and zone vacant and abandoned properties to the specifications of new businesses and houses.
  • Campus Commons: Connect our three colleges along the Flint River with an integrated land use plan for an education zone.
  • Open for Business: Help current and new businesses through a streamlined regulation, license and assistance process.
Taking Care of Our Neighborhoods
  • Neighborhood Action Teams: Organize existing city workers into teams accountable for improving our community through collaboration among the departments and partners.
  • Safe Streets: Deploy community police patrols to decrease crime in target areas and around schools, parks, hospitals, and businesses.
  • Family Parks: Bring family, youth and cultural programs to parks with recreation facilities.
Putting People First at City Hall
  • Community Centers Plus: Establish a citywide network of community and senior centers in cooperation with schools and churches
  • Great Start: Invest 1% of the general fund into city services that directly improve the life chances of young children
  • Grade Your Government: Allow citizens to rate city services and post annual report cards for departments

Dayne at a business meetingDayne has worked for the Genesee Institute at the Genesee County Land Bank to develop new ways for citizens and community groups to be involved in redevelopment. As Mayor, he will work with those citizens and community groups so that City Government, in partnership with all of Flint's citizens, can join in the hard work of rebuilding the city. Here in Flint we have the good people, ready workforce and available land to transform this city from the ground up. Dayne will work around the clock to bring opportunity back to Flint.

What else should we do in this city to bring opportunity back? I want to hear from you.
